Historical Archives of Belgrade

main activity
The main activity of the Archives is protection of archive materials with the authors while created, sorting, processing, lending for use, and publishing of archive materials. The Archives perform this function for the territories of all the photo17 municipalities of the City of Belgrade.

Its business premises cover an area of about 4,450 m2 but, out of that, storage – depots occupy 2,400 m2. The Archives keep in the depots the holdings of 12,5 km of archive materials. The materials cover the period from the middle of the 18th to the end of the 20th century: bodies of the authorities, administration, judiciary, economy, educational, health care, and cultural institutions, societies, galleryassociations, personal and family holdings and collections.


staff and visitors
Annually, the Archives visits about 8,000 of those interested in the scientific research of archive materials and issuing of public documents needed for regulation of legal and for private legal requirements or visit to the Gallery. The Historical Archives of Belgrade employ a staff of 56 workers, out of which 2/3 are on professional, and the rest are on the administrative and technical assignments.

Neo-Renaissance Architecture
in Budapest

Year of 2008 was pronounced the Year of Renaissance in Hungary; on that occasion Budapest City Archives opened an exhibition of plans and projects of Neo-Renaissance buildings in the city. The exhibition showed plans and projects, which comprehend characteristic forms of Italian, German and partly French Renaissance. These buildings became a part of the history of the town, treasury of architectural stile, presenters of elegance of its age. Among the projects of public buildings, the exhibition contents larger selection of private housing buildings. Photographs of edifices of Renaissance times – a part of Collection of Photographs of Klösz György, supply the exhibition.
In this way, Historical Archives of Belgrade participates in this year’s manifestation of European Heritage Days (September 2009).

Promotion of archival information systems

State Archives of Croatia and Historical Archives of Belgrade promoted its program solutions dedicated to the automation of working process and digitization of archive materials within the standardization of archive administration. Presentation allowed insight into the previous experience and achievements in the field of archives and record management in Republic of Croatia and Historical Archives of Belgrade.
