Ivan Đurić (1947-1997), a historian, a member of the Belgrade Byzantine School, aprofessor of the University of Belgrade, and an instructor at the Sorbonne.Byzance In his works, focused on the history of the Byzantine Empire, Đurić, in an original manner, surpassed the teachings that presented the Byzantine world in a narrow Slav-Greek orthodox framework and presented it to the world in all its complexities. With this, he earned reputation not only of the national, but also the international public.
In 1992, he was forced to leave the country. He died in Paris in 1997.
His legacy was the basis for his personal fond . The 33 boxes contain the documents which reflect the life and work of this famous scientist, but also the time he lived in.

At the time of the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia he took a prominent part in the antiwar protests, in the struggle for democratic freedoms and human rights. He is one of the founders of the Alliance of Reform Forces and its candidate at the first multiparty presidential elections.
